F1 News: Ferrari optimistic about progress on 2025 car

Ferrari are enjoying their best results of 2024 in recent weeks, thanks to the SF-24’s latest upgrades. The team’s current form validates the confidence shown by Fred Vasseur during the summer break. The Frenchman also believes Ferrari’s upward trajectory will translate into 2025.

Ferrari on the right path heading into the winter break

Having jumped Red Bull in the team standings, Ferrari are understandably working to catch their next target – McLaren.

The Scuderia are within touching distance of Andrea Stella’s squad, with Ferrari expected to introduce another update in Qatar before the season concludes.

In addition to extracting every tenth from the SF-24, the factory in Maranello is preparing for next year. Like the rest of the field, the Scuderia’s 2025 challenger will be determined by the next few months of development.

Vasseur’s comments give reason for confidence

Generally speaking, team principals work to downplay expectations in their media interviews.

There is little incentive for teams to make bold predictions about their progress – since this only puts them in a position to be criticised if they underachieve.

With that said, Fred Vasseur has been consistently confident in Ferrari’s trajectory. Even during their worst spell of the season (after the Spanish GP updates), Vasseur insisted that corrections could be made.

The Monza updates brought to fix the SF-24’s persistent limitations proved that his confidence was well-founded.

Not only did he emphasise that Ferrari would make progress in the second half of 2024, but Vasseur also revealed the team’s 2025 challenger was in a good place.

“The development of the 2025 Ferrari is proceeding well,” were his exact words.

Considering that F1 teams are always planning ahead, the corrections brought to Monza would have formed Ferrari’s baseline for next year’s project.

In the context of two successive victories, there Scuderia can be confident about their trajectory for next year’s campaign.
