Adrian Newey to lead engineering ‘superteam’ at Aston Martin

Adrian Newey is understood to have signed a 5-year deal with Aston Martin, where he will lead a team of top-level aerodynamicists. Newey will direct Aston’s numerous high-profile engineers into the 2026 regulations, as Aston Martin aim for the top.

Details of Aston Martin’s technical team under Adrian Newey

Whilst Adrian Newey is clearly a game-changing acquisition for Aston Martin, he is just one piece of a carefully constructed puzzle.

Team owner Lawrence Stroll has invested heavily in strengthening the team in all areas. Well before the arrival of Aston’s new infrastructure, Stroll worked diligently to sign the best engineers from across the paddock.

With Aston Martin’s wind tunnel ready to come online, the team’s technical department will use the newest facilities for 2026 development. Aston now has several engineers with experience at the highest level across the paddock.

Andy Cowell, who was Managing Director at Mercedes from 2013-20, will become Aston’s Chief Executive Officer in October.

Meanwhile, Enrico Cardile, formerly Ferrari’s technical director, will take the role of Chief Technical Officer. These signings join Dan Fallows, who arrived at the Silverstone-based outfit from Red Bull in 2022.

These big-name signings are accompanied by the acquisition of other mid-tier personnel. Whilst these names will fail to generate headlines, they are nonetheless crucial in Aston’s drive to the front.

Newey the driving force behind 2026 car

Ultimately, Adrian Newey will be at the top of Aston Martin’s engineering structure. When he begins working at the team in March 2025, he will be the driving force behind 2026 development.

The 65-year-old is also committed to the team for the long term. The BBC reports that Newey’s deal is a 5-year contract, worth up to £30 million per year.

For a variety of reasons, Lawrence Stroll’s squad has failed to meet expectations this season. Next year is also set to be underwhelming, given that the 2025 cars will be an evolution from this year’s designs.

Therefore, Aston Martin’s focus will be firmly on the 2026 cars. All the ingredients are falling into place ahead of the next set of regulations. It is now a question of execution.

This does not mean success is guaranteed. Top-quality personnel and infrastructure need to be correctly utilised to achieve victory. In any case, Lawrence Stroll – like much of the F1 world – will expect big results moving forward.
