Santino Ferrucci to join Trident for remainder of 2017 Formula 2 Season from Budapest

Santino Ferrucci is set to make his Formula 2 debut this weekend in Hungary where he will partner Nabil Jeffri at Trident. Unlike the return of Raffaele Marciello and the debut of Callum Ilott for individual rounds in Austria and Britain, Ferrucci will join the team full-time to race in the final five rounds of the 2017 Season.

Prior to joining Trident, Ferrucci competed in the championship’s feeder series, GP3. Here, he drove for DAMS and had a best race finish of third place. He currently lies in 14th in the Drivers’ Championship with three points to his name from the opening round of 2017.

The Team Manager of Trident, Giacomo Ricci, talked about Ferrucci joining the team: “We are really proud to announce the agreement reached between Team Trident and the American racer Santino Ferrucci for the final five rounds of the FIA Formula 2 season. The 19-year-old from Connecticut already had the chance to test one of our GP3 Series cars in last November’s collective postseason test at Abu Dhabi.

“Back then, he impressed the team’s staff, bringing home great results and keeping his name among the top-5 at all times. He is now set to make his Formula 2 debut at Budapest, on the same track where he led the way in GP3 Series testing. I am sure that Santino has all the skills needed to adapt to a Formula 2 car very quickly. Also, thanks to his Formula 1 experience, he will not having problems in managing more power and carbon fiber brakes.”

Ferrucci also has ties to Haas F1 as its development driver where he conducts simulator work and on track runs for the team. Following the Hungarian Grand Prix, Ferrucci will be taking part in Formula 1’s in-season test, driving the Haas VF-17, making him one of a number of Formula 2 drivers taking part in the test. Other drivers include Charles Leclerc, Nicholas Latifi, Luca Ghiotto, Gustav Malja, Nobuharu Matsushita, and Sean Gelael.
