Sauber targeting performance boost in Hungary with new upgrades

The Sauber F1 Team is targeting a boost in performance at this weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix where they will be bringing a number of aerodynamic upgrades, aiming to move further up the grid.

Sauber targeting performance boost in Hungary with new upgrades

So far in 2017, Sauber has had a difficult season, having scored only five points in the first half of the championship. This has particularly shown in recent races, with the Swiss outfit being unable to match the fast paced research and development of nearby teams on the grid such as McLaren.

The Hungarian Grand Prix will mark Frederic Vasseur’s first outing as Sauber’s new team principal, having been installed in the position following the British Grand Prix, replacing Monisha Kaltenborn.

One man who is excited to see Sauber’s progress in Hungary is Pascal Wehrlein. “I am looking forward to the Hungarian GP, and in particular to the first part of our aerodynamic update which will be introduced there,” he said. “It will be exciting to see how the adaptations will affect our performance. This will be our last race before the F1 shutdown – I will do my best to perform well and to finish the first half of the season on a positive note.”

Marcus Ericsson continued: “Off to the last race before the F1 shutdown – the Hungaroring is a track that I have been to a lot in the past couple of years. It is a very technical track with interesting corner combinations. I especially look forward to seeing my Swedish fans there, which motivates me even more to perform well. We will also have new parts on the car, and it will be interesting to see the first insights of this aerodynamic update. Hopefully, it will bring us forward so that we can fight our way into the midfield.”

The in-season test after the Hungarian Grand Prix will also allow Sauber to test new parts, with Formula 2 drivers Gustav Malja and Nobuharu Matsushita carrying out testing duties for the team.
