Austrian DTM driver Lucas Auer has revealed that he is in talks with a number of Formula 1 teams for an in-season test that will be held after the Hungarian Grand Prix,  before F1’s summer break.

Although Force India would be the logical choice due to Auer’s sponsorship with BWT – a brand that is a primary sponsor on the team’s VJM10 car – the driver has revealed that he is in talks with other teams. Speaking to Speed Week, he said: “I am in contact with several other F1 teams. Talks with Force India are already known, but otherwise I will not go into details,” he said. “Let’s leave it at that and focus on the DTM races next weekend.”

22 year old Auer drives for Mercedes-AMG Motorsport BWT, and currently lies in second place in the Driver’s Championship, one point behind Rene Rast after six of the 18 races of the 2017 Season having won two of them. This weekend, the Austrian is set to compete in Norisring to compete in the seventh and eighth rounds of the championship.

Nephew of F1 ace Gerhard Berger, Auer has competed in multiple series in his career, including German Formula 3, the Toyota Racing Series, and the very competitive European Formula 3 Series from 2012-2014 where he competed against notable racers including Max Verstappen, Esteban Ocon, and Antonio Giovinazzi, with all three since competing in Formula 1.

Due to Auer’s Mercedes ties, it is difficult to imagine that the 22 year old would race for a team that is not linked to Mercedes, making a Force India, Williams, or perhaps a Mercedes works team test more likely than any other team on the 2017 grid.
