The LWOS Motorsport staff deliver their F1 predictions on which driver and team can make the biggest step forward in 2023.
With pre-season testing wrapped up in Bahrain attention turns to the first Grand Prix of 2023. There has been a lot of movement up and down the grid both in terms of drivers, team principals, and development. In this first round of F1 predictions, our team reveals which driver and team could see the biggest improvement this season.
Biggest Improvement – Driver
- Arturo – Zhou Guanyu
- Cameron – Oscar Piastri
- Fatima – Alex Albon
- Gabe – Yuki Tsunoda
- Jack – Carlos Sainz
- Justin – Pierre Gasly
- Nathan – Pierre Gasly
- Nelson – Pierre Gasly
- Patricia – Zhou Guanyu
- Thomas – Alex Albon & Lance Stroll
- Vincent – Zhou Guanyu
- Yara – Pierre Gasly
As you would expect asking the team which driver could make the biggest jump from 2022 results in a wide array of responses. Pierre Gasly and Zhou Guanyu top the list with four and three nominations respectively. But overall seven different drivers earned at least one vote ranging from new McLaren rookie Oscar Piastri to potential title challenge Carlos Sainz.

Biggest Improvement – Team
- Arturo – Williams
- Cameron – Aston Martin
- Fatima – Aston Martin
- Gabe – Williams
- Jack – Aston Martin
- Justin – Aston Martin
- Nathan – Aston Martin
- Nelson – Aston Martin
- Patricia – Aston Martin
- Thomas – Aston Martin (w/Williams a close second)
- Vincent – Haas
- Yara – Aston Martin
There are clear favorites in this category and pre-season testing only reinforced those expectations. Aston Martin seems particularly fast in the hands of Fernando Alonso, but with Lance Stroll out injured how will his absence impact the team’s setup testing ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix? Williams looks to have made a step forward as well and could move away from the back of the pack if rookie Logan Sargeant can get close to Alex Albon.
Will one of these drivers and/or teams be the standout to improve the most in 2023? Give us your predictions in the comment section below and revisit this come November.
