Exclusive interview with Formula 3 hopeful Taylor Barnard

With Formula 3 post-season testing now completed, we caught up with Taylor Barnard after his three-day session with Jenzer Motorsport.

Taylor Barnard currently races in the ADAC German F4 championship, sitting second in the championship with four wins and eight podiums. Following an F4 race, Barnard was approached by F3 team Jenzer Motorsport to participate in the post-season test in preparation for the 2023 season, alongside Nikita Bedrin and Alex Garcia

“I was extremely happy and fortunate to have this opportunity.’ Barnard exclaimed. He spoke about the difficulties that followed, “It was a big step. Without any tests before, it wasn’t easy but I adjusted quickly and managed to put in some good early laps”.

Throughout the three days, Barnard also spent time learning useful information pertaining to the F3 car. In preparation for entering the car, Barnard undertook training that consisted of ‘stretching, juggling reaction balls, and skipping.’

“Jerez, where testing took place, is a track that many drivers haven’t raced on but is one that has been exclusively used for F3 tests throughout the years. I had never been to the [Jerez] circuit before so I needed to learn the track quickly, but I really enjoyed the fast track with the F3 car.”

Barnard maintained an impressive run throughout testing, finishing in the top ten in four out of the six sessions. Although, good results don’t always guarantee a place for next season. “The team was very happy with my performance. However, I’m still unsure as to where I’ll be in 2023”.

The ADAC F4 German championship will conclude on the weekend of October 14-16th at the infamous Nürburgring Circuit. Barnard is just 39 points behind first place with three rounds to go. While his focus will be on the finale weekend, we also await news from Jenzer Motorsport as they complete their evaluation and determine their 2023 lineup in Formula 3.
