Formula 2 comes to Zandvoort for its first-ever race and with a championship battle that looks like it’s only going one way.
Zandvoort is the second race of this final triple-header of the season. Last time out in Spa, Felipe Drugovich took a huge step towards his first F2 title. Drugovich outscored his nearest rivals who suffered various failures throughout the weekend to leave a points gap of 43 at the top.

With Zandvoort being a new track to F2, could it throw the chasing pack that lifeline they need, or will Drugovich put one hand on the trophy come Sunday?
The Circuit: Zandvoort
The 4.259km track is the second shortest on the calendar (after Monaco) but provides a unique challenge with its fast sweeps and banked corners. Located nearby to the coast, the sea breeze often blows a layer of sand onto the track between sessions.
The nature of the track means it is not the easiest to overtake. However, lacking knowledge of the circuit means there are likely to be a lot of mistakes from drivers. Opening doors and potentially allowing overtakes to be attempted where they traditionally wouldn’t be.
Feature Race Predictions
This has to be the hardest of the season. A new track that only a few drivers have experience on from their F3 season last year. While F2 cars are a definite step-up the experience has to count for something and so I would expect it to be shown more in qualifying.
Come the Feature Race the majority of the grid will be up to speed and we should be in for a great race. The closest track in terms of the layout has to be Hungary. Those who performed well on the flowing nature of the track in Hungary should do so here.
Podium predictions:
- Ayumu Iwasa
- Enzo Fittipaldi
- Theo Pourchaire
F2 Championship Standings
Drivers
Drugovich’s performance last weekend has provided him with a very nice buffer. Coming into this weekend, even if he fails to score any points he will still be leading the championship. He however will want to increase that lead further and take the F2 drivers title.
- Felipe Drugovich – 205 points
- Theo Pourchaire – 162 points
- Logan Sargeant – 127 points
- Jack Doohan – 121 points
Teams
The teams’ championship has remained somewhat under the radar but with three weekends left and only 20 points covering the top 3, it’s all to play for. The money is paid out in F2 for the teams’ championship so expect team orders to start coming into play soon.
- ART Grand Prix – 253 points
- Carlin – 241 points
- MP Motorsport – 232 points
- Hitech Grand Prix – 168 points
