Ferrari Prepare Important Belgian GP Upgrades

Ferrari were in the minority of teams without updates at the British GP. It will be at the upcoming Belgian GP when Ferrari, after months of development, will bring their next package to the SF-25.

Ferrari to implement major revisions to rear suspension

Throughout the 2025 season, McLaren have set the standard at the very front, with an MCL39 that performs impeccably in all conditions.

Even at circuits when McLaren haven’t claimed victory, such as Canada or Japan, their package has been superior.

Still, from week to week, the other top teams can be credited with giving Andrea Stella’s team some headaches.

Although an extreme set-up prevented Verstappen from challenging in wet conditions on Sunday, Red Bull still found enough performance to take Pole Position.

Ferrari were also firmly in the hunt for Pole, before a poor start meant Hamilton spent most of his Sunday behind slower cars.

Leclerc, meanwhile, was fighting an uphill battle after an early strategic blunder.

Lewis Hamilton was frustrated to miss out on a podium on home soil, and bemoaned the SF-25’s poor drivability in wet conditions.

This is not to say there weren’t positives for Ferrari, who brought a new floor a few weeks before Silverstone in Austria.

In fact, both in Spielberg and Silverstone, Ferrari noted a step forward thanks to their latest upgrade.

On the topic of drivability, Hamilton has expressed he is slightly more comfortable behind the wheel compared to the beginning of the season – which is something the team will work on for what remains of 2025.

Critically, the Scuderia’s latest floor is only the beginning of their mid-season development programme.

A revised suspension is scheduled for the Belgian GP, as reported by it.motorsport, promising a big change to the characteristics of the SF-25.

More upgrades are due after this, with another floor modification to arrive at round fourteen in Hungary.

For a team now within a few tenths of McLaren, relatively minor improvements could make the difference at the front.

Last chance to progress this year

Historically, Ferrari are a team that often lost out in the mid-season development race.

Across the 2010s, first Red Bull and then Mercedes won titles by unlocking more performance than their Italian counterparts mid-season.

Under these regulations, however, it can be said this trend has shifted.

Despite a blip at the Spanish GP, Ferrari recovered impressively last year with their Monza updates – which put them on a similar level to McLaren in terms of performance.

Before these upgrades, Fred Vasseur was clear in his belief that his team would improve later in the season.

Roughly twelve months later, the Frenchman retains a similar level of optimism.

After the British GP, Vasseur pointed out that Maranello is making measurable progress:

“Clearly, McLaren were much faster than us. But today, we scored more points than Mercedes and Red Bull, which is positive.

“As is the fact that we were competitive all the way up to the final run in Q3. [Showing] that our pace has improved considerably compared to earlier in the year.

“And now we need to carry that performance level into the second half of the season. We will study this weekend’s data to see why we struggled where we did.”
