Which Formula E Drivers Are Driving in the 24 Hours of Le Mans?

If you are missing Formula E, do not worry, as the 24 Hours of Le Mans will be held this weekend on June 14-15.

Several Formula E Drivers Will Take Part in the Endurance Race

It is one of three races part of motorsport’s triple crown that every driver wants to win, so let’s hope a Formula E driver can do so.

Pascal Wehrlein – #4 Porsche Penske Motorsport

Pascal Wehrlein, reigning Formula E champion, is set to make his debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, competing in the Hypercar class for Porsche Penske Motorsport. He will share the #4 car with Felipe Nasr and Nick Tandy.

Having finished sixth at the 24 Hours of Daytona earlier this year, Wehrlein arrives at Le Mans eager to improve on that result, perhaps even eyeing a place on the podium.

The German’s journey to endurance racing began in Formula 1, where he drove for Manor in 2016, securing their only point of the season. He then joined Sauber in 2017, adding five more points before being replaced by Charles Leclerc in 2018.

After F1, Wehrlein switched focus to Formula E, signing with TAG Heuer Porsche. Since then, he has remained with the team, winning the drivers’ title in 2024 after a season-long battle against both Jaguar drivers. Currently, he holds second place in the standings, just behind fellow title contender Oliver Rowland.

Nyck de Vries – #7 Toyota Gazoo Racing

De Vries will drive in the 24 Hours of Le Mans alongside Mike Conway and Kamui Kobayashi for Toyota Gazoo Racing.

A former Formula 2 champion in 2019, de Vries finally entered F1 in 2022, filling in for Alex Albon at Monza and impressively finishing ninth. This performance earned him a seat at AlphaTauri for 2023. However, after a string of underwhelming races and being consistently outqualified by teammate Yuki Tsunoda, he was replaced mid-season by Daniel Ricciardo.

He clinched the Formula E championship in 2021 with Mercedes-EQ and returned to the series in 2023 following his F1 departure. Currently racing with Mahindra Racing, he sits eighth in the standings, helped by a strong podium finish in Monaco.

Sebastien Buemi – #8 Toyota Gazoo Racing

Sébastien Buemi lines up for yet another shot at Le Mans glory, this time in the Toyota Gazoo Racing Hypercar alongside Ryo Hirakawa and Brendon Hartley. A four-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Swiss driver is expected to do well this year.

He was formerly a Toro Rosso F1 driver between 2009 and 2011 before moving to Formula E, where he claimed the drivers’ championship in 2016 after a fierce rivalry with Lucas di Grassi.

Competing in WEC since 2012, he has amassed four titles, 26 wins, and over 50 podiums. Currently racing for Envision Racing in Formula E, Buemi sits 12th in the standings, following a victory at Monaco.

Norman Nato – #12 Cadillac Hertz Team Jota

Frenchman Norman Nato takes on the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the LMDh class with Cadillac Hertz Team Jota, driving alongside Will Stevens and Alex Lynn.

A former Formula 2 driver, Nato switched to endurance racing in 2018 and found immediate success, finishing third in European Le Mans. In 2020, he came close to victory at Le Mans, securing second place and earning six podiums from seven races that year.

Nato made his Formula E debut in 2020 with ROKiT Venturi Racing and has since driven for several teams. This season, he partners with Oliver Rowland at Nissan and currently sits 19th in the standings.

Robin Frijns – #20 BMW M Team WRT

Dutch driver Robin Frijns joins BMW M Team WRT for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, sharing the LMDh entry with René Rast and Sheldon van der Linde.

Frijns brings experience across multiple categories, such as F2, DTM, and WEC, and has tested for several F1 teams, including Sauber, Red Bull, and Caterham, though he never gained a full-time drive.

His most notable success came in WEC, where he won the title in 2021. Frijns entered Formula E in 2015 with Andretti Autosport and enjoyed a standout 2023 season with Envision, winning the team’s championship.

Currently, he sits 20th in the Formula E standings, still racing with Envision.

Jean-Eric Vergne – #93 Peugeot Totalenergies

Jean-Éric Vergne will compete at Le Mans in the Peugeot Hypercar, partnered with Mikkel Jensen and Paul di Resta for Peugeot TotalEnergies.

After three seasons with Toro Rosso in F1, Vergne transitioned to Formula E, where he made history as the first and only driver to win the championship twice in 2018 and 2019 with DS Techeetah.

Though he is yet to replicate that success in WEC, he has participated since 2017, securing three podiums. Now in his fifth appearance at Le Mans, Vergne is hoping to finally convert experience into a breakthrough result.

He currently races for DS Penske in Formula E, and he occupies fifth in the standings.

Stoffel Vandoorne – #94 Peugeot Totalenergies

Vandoorne will drive in the 24 Hours of Le Mans alongside Loic Duval and Malthe Jakobsen for Peugeot Totalenergies.

He drove for McLaren in F1 for two years from 2017-2018, but lost his seat in 2019 after struggling with the car’s poor performance.

The Belgian driver moved to Formula E in 2019 and drove alongside de Vries, becoming the drivers’ champion in 2022.  He currently sits 11th in the driver’s championship, driving for Maserati MSG Racing.

Antonio Felix da Costa – #183 AF Corse

Competing in the LMP2 class, António Félix da Costa returns to Le Mans with AF Corse with François Perrodo and Matthieu Vaxivière.

Da Costa previously won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2022 and has consistently challenged at the front in WEC, including podium finishes in 2019, 2020, and 2021.

A seasoned Formula E driver since the inaugural season, da Costa captured the 2020 title with DS Techeetah and remains one of the series’ most consistent performers. This year, he sits third in the standings, trailing only his Porsche teammate Wehrlein and championship leader Oliver Rowland.
