Formula E races in Shanghai, China, on May 31 and June 1 as a double-header race at the Shanghai International Circuit.
Everything You Need to Know About Formula E’s Time in Shanghai
Racing begins on May 30 with FP1, where all 22 drivers will familiarise themselves with the Shanghai International Circuit. The two days of racing on May 31 and June 1 will be packed full of action because the weekend serves as a doubleheader, which was the case in Tokyo.
Past Performances in Shanghai
China returned to the calendar in Season 10, with Shanghai hosting Formula E in Season 11 at the Shanghai International Circuit. Formula E’s very first race was held in China in 2014, racing along the streets of Beijing with a dramatic end. Since then, the all-electric motorsport has raced all across China, with races in Beijing, Hong Kong, Sanya and Shanghai.
The Shanghai International Circuit is 5.451 km long and is located just outside of Shanghai, around a 30-minute train journey. The track has 16 turns, with a variety of slow, medium and high-speed corners. Additionally, there are two long straights where drivers will be able to overtake one another.
Mitch Evans won race 1 in Shanghai last year, but is unlikely to repeat that amazing performance this year as Jaguar has struggled with the GEN3 EVO. Antonio Felix da Costa won race 2 in Shanghai last year, and is in contention to win again with Porsche having a great car. Jake Hughes took pole in Shanghai by just 0.001 seconds here last year, but he has also had a tough time this year as he finds himself 15th in the drivers’ standings.
In five Chinese E-Prix, Lucas di Grassi is the highest scoring (44 points), ahead of Jean-Eric Vergne (43) and Antonio Felix da Costa (40). Also, in race 2 in Shanghai last season, Norman Nato claimed a third-place finish, so this could be his first podium for Nissan this year.
The favourite to win is once again Oliver Rowland, who has been at the top of his game this year. But anything can happen in Formula E.

Oliver Rowland heads to Shanghai in the lead of the driver’s championship. The Briton has a lead of 77 points over Pascal Wehrlein, who is second in the drivers’ standings. The Nissan driver is first with a whopping 161 points, while the current World Champion, Wehrlein, has 84 points.
Antonio Felix da Costa sits in third place with 73 points, after being overtaken by his teammates in the standings in Tokyo. British driver Taylor Barnard is fourth with 69 points after having crashed in the second race in Tokyo. Elsewhere, in fifth position is Jake Dennis with 56 points, also overtaking Nyck De Vries, who just missed out on a podium in Tokyo.
Nissan has overtaken Porsche to claim the first position in the teams’ standings. The Japanese team is first with 172 points, while Porsche follows with 157 points. Mahindra remains third, coming to Shanghai with 99 points. DS Penske were previously fourth with 89 points, but McLaren passed them by scoring 90 points (just one point separating them).
Continuing on with their success in Tokyo, Nissan is first in the manufacturers’ championship. They have secured 256 points during the first nine races of Season 11.. In second place is Porsche with 212 points, while Stellantis are third with 148 points. Lastly, Jaguar is in fourth place with 141 points, while Mahindra have dropped down to fifth with 120 points.
