Williams unveil FW47 challenger for 2025 season

With the arrival of Carlos Sainz and Atlassian as the team’s first title sponsor since 2019, there is plenty of optimism at Williams.

The British team are working to expand and modernise their infrastructure, to put them on more equal footing with the established front-runners.

Although Williams have made no secret the 2026 regulations are the priority, they still aim to be competitive this season.

Williams excited about the future

Prior to Dorilton Capital’s takeover of the team, Williams were plagued by financial difficulties, which was detrimental to their success.

Outdated facilities, development tools and procedures saw the British team spend the final years of the 2010s at the back.

However, new ownership and subsequent financial injection has created a far more optimistic outlook at the Grove factory.

Upon arrival as team principal, James Vowles immediately pushed for Williams to modernise in all areas – from its organisational procedures to overall infrastructure.

Their new title sponsorship with Atlassian, beyond its financial implications, will also involve significant investment and evolution of the team’s software – something Vowles has been working on for some time.

Speaking at the FW47, the 45-year-old outlined what to expect from Williams in the foreseeable future:

“The main thing is this, you’re going to see us progress forward, but what I’ve always said is we put our focus in 2026, 27 and 28.

“We’re developing elements that come online as a result of that.

“We have this year, huge infrastructure changes that come online. As I said before, we’re 700 people and over 1050 today – and we’re not finished yet, there’s a lot more in the pipeline.

“That’s all happening in the background. What I want to make sure that we’re doing is not taking just short term – little bit of gain – at the cost of the long term.

“We’re here to make sure we’re back to winning Championships.

“To do that it will take a little bit more time, but that’s the investment we’re doing. But as I said, watch our pathway, it should be a good one this year.”

Albon encouraged by the Williams project

Successfully reaching an agreement with Carlos Sainz was one of the highlights for Williams in 2024.

Signing a four-time winner to the team has given further credibility to the work and vision of James Vowles’ personnel.

With that said, Alex Albon has been an indispensable pillar for Williams in recent seasons – contributing to the lion’s share of their points.

Having joined the Grove-based outfit at the beginning of their rebuilding progress, Albon is pleased with the changes taking place.

The Thai driver outlined the evolution at Williams in today’s launch event:

“To be honest, it’s not unexpected. I feel liked it’s been a long time coming. I joined this team maybe quite early on in the Dorilton era, let’s say.

“It’s great to see. It’s almost comforting to know as well that people are believing in the journey Williams are on.

“Obviously I was maybe one of the first ones to believe it, but it’s great.

“Especially with Carlos joining, Atlassian joining, there’s a real buzz around the team.

“You feel that, you feel that when you walk into the factory.”
