Lewis Hamilton learning Italian ahead of Ferrari move – Report

Before the 2024 season developed into a four-team battle at the front, Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari move stole all the headlines. As Hamilton inches closer to his Ferrari debut, work is taking place in the background to ensure a smooth transition.

Lewis Hamilton: Italian lessons, Maranello factory visits and integrating into Ferrari

For obvious reasons, Lewis Hamilton joining Ferrari is one of F1’s biggest ever stories.

The 7-time Champion ends his record-breaking partnership with Mercedes in a quest to return Ferrari to Championship glory.

Based on the Scuderia’s strong end to this year’s campaign, they should be very competitive in 2025.

Having barely missed out on the constructors title, Ferrari could realistically give Hamilton title-contending machinery.

Considering he will become teammate’s with the immensely fast Charles Leclerc, it will be crucial for the British driver to adapt quickly.

With this in mind, there is plenty of activity behind the scenes to ensure Hamilton hits the ground running.

A busy winter for Hamilton and Ferrari’s 2025 preparations

According to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, Lewis Hamilton has already visited the Ferrari factory in Maranello on several occasions.

It is also understood that Hamilton is also taking Italian lessons ahead of 2025.

This is not necessarily to communicate with engineers on track.

Not since the days of Fernando Alonso in the early 2010s have Ferrari regularly spoken Italian on team radio.

Still, Hamilton’s efforts to learn Italian will help him to acclimatise with the team.

Knowing Italian will be most relevant in Maranello, where the 7-time Champion aims to develop a strong relationship with the factory engineers.

No stone left unturned

Beyond this, Hamilton is already familiarising himself with the factory and technologies available to Ferrari.

He will undoubtedly make himself at home with Ferrari’s simulator over the winter.

The 39-year-old is fully committed being active in the Italian outfit’s day-to-day activities.

Prior to pre-season testing in Bahrain, Hamilton is scheduled to make his Ferrari debut in Fiorano.

In traditional style, Hamilton will drive a Ferrari for the first time at the team’s private track in Italy.

A few weeks after this is when the real work begins.

After taking significant steps forward in 2024, both the constructors and drivers Championships are attainable for Ferrari next year.

In this sense, the former Mercedes driver must find his feet immediately.

Ferrari aim for Championship glory

Team principal Fred Vasseur has spoken at length about the value Hamilton brings to the team.

Aside from his obvious speed, the Frenchman explains that Hamilton will push the team to fight for every tenth.

Considering the fine margins separating Red Bull, Mercedes and McLaren this season, attention to detail is essential.

For a team that hasn’t won a Championship since 2008, next year could be historic in more ways than one.

Of course, all of this only concerns the short and medium-term.

Once the 2026 regulations arrive, there will be a complete reset – which could disrupt the pecking order.

This is something Hamilton and Ferrari must navigate, to ensure their partnership can last for the long-term.
