2025 F1 Academy Lineup: Lia Block Re-signs with Williams

The 2025 F1 Academy grid continues to take shape, with Lia Block re-signing with Williams.

Seven drivers confirm their participation in the 2025 F1 Academy season

Lia Block will remain with Williams for another year as the British team confirmed that the American driver will again race under their banner in the 2025 F1 Academy season.

The announcement came before the qualifying session for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

At just 18 years old, Block will embark on her sophomore campaign, continuing her association with ART Grand Prix.

She joins six other confirmed drivers for next season and becomes the second from the 2024 rookie class to return. Alongside her, Chloe Chambers will switch from Haas to Red Bull Ford, replacing Emely De Heus.

2024 Wild Card entrants Nina Gademan (Alpine), Courtney Crone (Haas), and Ella Lloyd (McLaren) will make their full-time debuts in the series. Newcomers Rafaela Ferreira (RB) and Alba Hurup Larsen (Tommy Hilfiger) make up the other confirmed drivers so far.

Four other drivers are not yet confirmed to return: Doriane Pin (Mercedes), Maya Weug (Ferrari), Tina Hausmann (Aston Martin), and Aurelia Nobels (PUMA). Expect announcements in due course.

A Promising Start

Block’s debut season in single-seaters has been a remarkable journey for an individual with little experience compared to some of her peers.

Since transitioning from rallying to circuit racing, the teenager has demonstrated steady growth and adaptability. Her confidence in the car has increased while her skills have sharpened with each passing round.

The American is currently eighth in the Drivers’ Standings. Her best results are two fourth-place finishes, evidence of her potential.

As the series exists to provide visibility and track experience for participants, this next year could be what she needs to further prove her potential and move up the single-seater ladder.

In addition to competing on the grid, Block remains an integral part of the Williams Racing Driver Academy. Reflecting on the renewed partnership, she expressed her excitement:

“I’m excited to be racing with Williams Racing and ART Grand Prix for the 2025 season, and I’m looking forward to working with everyone in the Driver Academy for another year. We’ve made so much progress, and I can’t wait to hit the track again in Shanghai. This time we fight for wins!” – Lia Block.

Williams Racing’s Sporting Director, Sven Smeets, shared his enthusiasm for Block’s continued involvement:

We’re thrilled to have Lia racing with us in F1 Academy for 2025. Lia has shown impressive improvement throughout her first season of open-wheel racing, progressing race after race to end the year in a great position. We’ll be closely watching her continued growth in the coming year.” – Sven Meets.

The Importance of Resigning

Re-signing F1 Academy drivers to their respective academies will play a vital role in nurturing talent and ensuring consistent development.

The relationships built between drivers and teams, as demonstrated by Williams’ commitment to Block, highlight the proactive involvement of F1 teams in guiding the careers of those they allow to represent them.

This approach provides drivers with the stability and resources needed to refine their skills while maintaining close ties with their supporting academies.

More importantly, it paves the way for future opportunities.

Once a driver completes their two years in the series, they can either progress through the feeder series’ or explore alternative pathways, helped by the continued support of their academy.

Such partnerships underline the F1 Academy’s role in nurturing the next generation of female racing talent.

With a strong foundation laid in her rookie year, Lia Block’s return to Williams promises an exciting season ahead as she aims for further success and her first taste of victory.
