Formula E: Gen 3 Evo unveiled in Monaco

Formula E and the FIA have unveiled the next evolution in electric racing technology, the GEN3 Evo race car, at H.S.H Prince Albert II’s Private Car Collection.

This latest iteration of the all-electric race car represents a quantum leap forward in performance, sustainability, and efficiency, setting new standards for the sport.

The unveiling of the GEN3 Evo will take place in the prestigious venue of the Prince of Monaco’s private car collection. Spanning 3500m2, this unique exhibition showcases iconic vehicles like the Bugatti Type 35 and Sébastien Loeb’s Citroën DS3 WRC. Alongside around a hundred other cars, from vintage classics to modern marvels.

Innovations in GEN3 Evo

The GEN3 Evo builds upon the GEN3,introducing unprecedented acceleration. It’s the fastest FIA single-seater race car globally. With all-wheel drive, aggressive body kit, and upgraded Hankook iON race tires, it’s a significant evolution in electric racing technology. It boasts remarkable acceleration, capable of reaching 0-60mph in just 1.82 seconds, making it the fastest accelerating FIA single-seater race car on the planet. This acceleration outpaces current Formula 1 cars by 30% and its predecessor, the GEN3, by 36%. These enhancements not only enhance performance and agility but also promote closer wheel-to-wheel racing, delivering an electrifying experience for drivers and fans alike.

In discussing the new GEN3 Evo, Jeff Dodds on the press conference we attended in Monaco aimed to represent the three target audiences. They aim to conquer now and in the future and how. For potential fans, the big headlines are aiming to attract them. They are about the new car design and acceleration, which is 30% faster than a Formula 1 car. Current fans appreciate highly competitive racing on track that is entertaining and sustainable, and they will continue with that. Traditional fans who complained about too much entertainment and too many overtakes at the beginning of races will be drawn in by the GEN3 Evo. The GEN 3 Evo will accelerate in a fraction of 1.8 seconds, from zero to 60 mph.

Sustainability as key

Moreover, the GEN3 Evo continues to prioritize sustainability and efficiency. Every aspect of its production has been reimagined to set the benchmark for high-performance, sustainable racing without compromise. From the incorporation of natural materials in tires, batteries, and bodywork construction, the GEN3 Evo embodies Formula E’s commitment to environmental responsibility. “The use of 35% recycled materials in the tires is a significant step towards sustainability in motorsport” Dodds says. Bruno emphasizes: “It’s crucial that we leave no rubbish behind and strive for a cleaner, greener future on and off the track.”

As Formula E prepares for Season 11, the debut of the GEN3 Evo signifies a fresh chapter in electric racing. It reaffirms the sport’s leadership in sustainable motorsport, promising to captivate global audiences with groundbreaking technology and innovation. The GEN3 Evo is poised to propel progress both on and off the track.

Statements from Formula E and FIA leadership

Jeff Dodds, Chief Executive Officer of Formula E, expressed his excitement about the GEN3 Evo. “The GEN3 Evo heralds a ground-breaking chapter in the evolution of Formula E. It embodies our dedication to innovation and high performance achieved sustainably.” Dodds emphasized the car’s unprecedented acceleration and advanced aerodynamic design. He predicted that it would captivate drivers and fans worldwide with its superior capabilities and performance.

Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the FIA, praised the collaborative effort behind the development of the GEN3 Evo. He highlighted its significance in advancing electric racing technology. “The FIA and Formula E have been working hard on the development process of this new GEN3 Evo race car. This represents another significant leap forward in electric racing technology,” said Ben Sulayem. He commended both organizations for their commitment to pushing the boundaries of sustainable motorsport while delivering competitive racing.
