Formula 1 in Mexico for the Mexican Grand Prix and the LWOS staff rolls out their F1 Predictions – race winner, podium, and surprise result.

The Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez sets the scene for race 20 of 22 for the Mexico City Grand Prix. This track has been dominated by Red Bull over the last few years, and it seems another victory could be heading their way on Sunday. A gorgeous track that includes a baseball stadium at the final corners, and hardcore fans who create a memorable event year in and year out.

Can Sergio Perez create fireworks to win his home race or will Max Verstappen break the record for most wins in a season? Will Mercedes finally break the duck and get their first win? Or which driver can make the headline other than the same teams? Let’s dive in to see what the LWOS staff has to say in the latest F1 predictions roundtable.

Race Winner

  • Arturo – Sergio Perez
  • Evan – Carlos Sainz
  • Fatima – Sergio Perez
  • Gabe – Max Verstappen
  • Jack –  Lewis Hamilton
  • Justin – Max Verstappen
  • Mikey – Sergio Perez
  • Nathan – Sergio Perez
  • Thomas –  Lewis Hamilton
  • Yara – Max Verstappen

The entire F1 community and most of the staff favor Sergio Perez to be victorious this weekend. Max Verstappen with three, Lewis Hamilton with two, and one for Carlos Sainz. Last year, Perez became the first Mexican driver to be on the podium in Mexico. Now, fans want Perez to become the first Mexican driver to win their home race. This would be a top-five moment of the season if Perez were to accomplish this feat. I hope he can come away with the victory, but outside the podium finish, his record in Mexico has not been the best. Hopefully, he can have a weekend with very little error and in return, he can hoist the first-place trophy at the end.

Max Verstappen is also on a quest of his own. He currently sits with 13 wins and needs one more to break the record for most wins in a single season. He may spoil Perez’s chances of winning, but maybe he can give the assist to his teammate to Perez. Lewis Hamilton last weekend came very close to his first win at Texas. He is quite familiar with Mexico and is always in the mix for a win, but this track has been dominated by Red Bull through the years. Carlos Sainz, who retired last weekend, is the only driver with one pick. Sadly, I do not think he will be in the running for the race win. Mercedes and Red Bull will make it difficult for Ferrari to come out on top.

Remaining Podium

  • Arturo – Max Verstappen & Lewis Hamilton
  • Evan – Max Verstappen & Lewis Hamilton
  • Fatima – Max Verstappen & Lewis Hamilton
  • Gabe – Carlos Sainz & Lewis Hamilton
  • Jack – Max Verstappen & Carlos Sainz
  • Justin – Sergio Perez & Lewis Hamilton
  • Mikey – Lando Norris & Max Verstappen
  • Nathan – Max Verstappen & Charles Leclerc
  • Thomas – Sergio Perez & Max Verstappen
  • Yara – Sergio Perez & Charles Leclerc

Similar to last week’s F1 predictions, the top three teams are once again the common choices for the podium. The only big surprise pick for a podium spot comes from Mikey, as he believes Lando can find his way there. Hypothetically, I would love to see Lando get a spot on the podium to give some sunlight to what has been a difficult season for McLaren. Realistically, he will need a lot of help from the top three teams to be in that position.

Surprise Result

  • Arturo – Lando Norris top 5
  • Evan – Sergio Perez DNF in his home race after wrecking early in the race
  • Fatima – Charles Leclerc DNF
  • Gabe – Stroll top 5
  • Jack – Double Aston Martin points
  • Justin – Both AlphaTauris in the points
  • Mikey – Lando podium after some shenanigans
  • Nathan – Carlos Sainz finishes the race
  • Thomas – Moneygram Haas sees both Magnussen and Schumacher finishing in the points
  • Yara – Vettel top 5

Several surprise results favor bottom half of the standings teams such as Haas and Aston Martin to finish in the points.  Aston Martin is on a three-race streak of scoring points and two believe their luck will continue a top 5 finish for the team. Another standout has to be from Evan, while the majority is favoring a win for Perez, he thinks otherwise. There have been past moments where drivers who are at their home race, went on to have a race to forget. Lando is in dire need of a better result to help McLaren secure fourth in the constructors. Madness will most likely need to be the determining factor in order to make it to the top five or even the podium.
