2023 Formula 3 Driver Lineup: Trident announces Gabriel Bortoleto

Formula 3 Testing in Jerez - Day 2

Trident Racing has announced the signing of seventeen-year-old Brazilian driver Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the 2023 season.

Gabriel Bortoleto is currently racing in FREC for R-ace GP, taking three podiums and one win. He is currently sixth in the championship. Bortoleto was one of the numerous young drivers who participated in Formula 3 post-season testing in September. Following that performance, Trident Racing announced that Bortoleto would be the first of three drivers to be representing them in 2023.

Giacomo Ricci, Trident’s Team Manager stated:

“We are proud to welcome a promising driver like Gabriel Bortoleto to our line-up. He needs no introduction as he has been extremely competitive since his karting days and is now collecting impressive results in the FRECA championship as well.

“We are sure that by joining the Trident Motorsport family, Gabriel will receive solid support from every team member and prove his value and qualities.”

With Trident Racing finishing second in the team championships last season and rookie Zane Maloney becoming vice-champion, it’s clear that Trident is a team capable of success. How will Bortoleto fare and can he extend their success with rookies?

Bortoleto expressed his gratitude to Trident Racing:

“I am extremely delighted for the chance to compete in the 2023 FIA Formula 3 Championship with a high-level team like Trident Motorsport, I would like to thank every member of the team for the warm welcome I have been given. I feel ready for a new chapter in my career and to move to a higher series in single-seaters. I will put my best effort to make the most of this great opportunity.”

With Bortoleto being the first driver to be announced, there are still twenty-nine seats available. Many of the 2022 drivers were missing from post-season testing, so we might be set for a lot of new faces next season. Each of the ten teams will field three drivers.

As drivers (and teams) continue to be announced, we will expand the table.

With two rounds to go in the FREC 2022 season, Bortoleto is nineteen points adrift to fifth in the standings, hoping to end the season on a high as he looks ahead to the 2023 season.

Will Trident look to bring back Jonny Edgar who raced in seven rounds for the team in 2022? Will both Roman Staněk and Zane Maloney move on to Formula 2 or return to be a title contender? As news is confirmed for the 2023 Formula 3 driver lineup will provide updates.
