You can take Ryan Blaney off the list of 2021 free agents, as he’ll continue to wear the starch white shirts for the foreseeable future.
Team Penske announced Friday that it’s re-signed Blaney to a multi-year extension. The length of the deal wasn’t disclosed, but most deals in the NASCAR Cup Series last for three years.
Ryan Blaney signs extension with Team Penske
“Ryan is a true talent with a long runway ahead of him and we are excited to have him as a part of the future of Team Penske,” said team owner, Roger Penske.
He noted how Blaney’s “developed into a championship caliber driver” since he made the move from Wood Brothers Racing to Team Penske in 2018. Furthermore, his personality and fan engagement — be it through Twitter, his antics with his best friend, Darrell Wallace Jr., and his NASCAR.com podcast, The Glass Case of Emotion — makes him “a terrific ambassador for NASCAR.”
“In addition, Ryan has done a great job of working with our partners to support their activation and investment throughout each year,” Penske said. “I am looking forward to even more success together.”
A longtime prospect for Team Penske, two of Blaney’s three Cup Series wins have come since he hopped into the No. 12 Ford in 2018, as has two of his playoff berths.
“I am proud of what we have accomplished with the No. 12 Team Penske Ford and our ability to represent great brands like Menards, Advance Auto Parts, DEX Imaging and BODYARMOR,” Blaney said. “It’s really exciting to know I will continue to drive for this organization in 2021 and beyond. I am fortunate to be surrounded by extremely talented people throughout the organization and have no doubt we will continue to compete for wins and championships well into the future.”
At the time of his extension, Blaney leads the NASCAR Cup Series points standings. For more updates and breaking news, fans can follow us on Twitter at @RacingVault.
