The Summer of Sweet continues, Big Cat wins Kings Royal

Kings Royal

First, he took home the $150,000 purse after winning the 2018 Knoxville Nationals.

Now Brad Sweet has started off the Month of Money by taking the large purse given out at the Kings Royal at Eldora Speedway.

“Hooooooly shit,” Sweet said on the DirtVision.com broadcast in victory lane. “We just one 175 motherfucking grand. Hell yeah!”

The win is Sweet’s series-leading 11th victory of the season and his ninth since he started off his hot streak at Granite City on June 8.

Sweet, however, didn’t take the lead until lap 26 of the 40-lap main event, when he jumped in front of Logan Schuchart on the final restart.

Schuchart, who started in 12th, had built up a 2.5 second lead over Sweet and the rest of the field after passing polesitter Sammy Swindell on lap 11.

The Pennsylvania native had been building the lead over the next 15 laps when Aaron Reutzel caught a flat tire, bringing out the caution.

Once the caution was out, it was evident that the cars would not be able to make it the entire 40-laps on one tank of fuel, which brought out the red flag so that teams could re-fuel. The delay lasted 15 minutes.

It gave teams and drivers a chance to re-set and put the Big Cat in position to pounce.

Not even a full lap into the final stint, Sweet had the lead.

Though behind them there was an eventful race for third going on.

Sheldon Haudenschild had worked his way up early on, as well as Kerry Madsen who were both challenging Donny Schatz for the spot.

Haudenschild eventually got there before the caution for Reutzel, which ended up being the start of the collapse to Schatz’ night.

Schatz’ fell from third to sixth with five laps to go, marking the first time he has finished there since 2015 – the last time the North Dakota native didn’t win the event.

Haudenschild finished in fourth right in front of David Gravel, who had run well all week, and behind the likes of Brent Marks after the No. 19 made a surprise run late.

The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series will return to the track on Tuesday for the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup at Lernerville Speedway.
