World of Outlaws: Donny Schatz wins First Music City Nationals Feature

Donny Schatz

The World of Outlaws visited Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville for the first time in series history on Friday night and who else would be the first to right his name in the history books than 10-time series champion Donny Schatz?

Schatz overcame what was a narrow track with little room to pass to capture his third win of the season.

Fans on social media sounded off on their displeasure with the track.

But the racing went on.

Sheldon Haudenschild was on the pole after a wild start to the night. He used the narrow exit off of turn 4 on the new track to nearly bounce off of the wall and set the quick time for the night.

Even though he won his heat race, Haudenschild would start P4 and finish P5, though it was his fourth top-five finish of the season.

Haudenschild did however move from 10th to 9th in the series points standings, passing Kraig Kinser after Kinser finished P21 on Friday.

Bill Balog actually led for a majority of the A-Main later on after starting on the pole, but after getting loose out of turn 4, Schatz would pass him for the lead.

Balog would later be passed once more, this time by Brad Sweet – who sits right behind Schatz in the series standings – and the pair would finish second and third respectively.

Schatz’ third win of the season matches both Logan Schuchart and David Gravel as highs for the series.

The Outlaws are back on the track Saturday night to do the whole thing again, and this time the purse moves up.
