Daniel Ricciardo Denies Agreement To Drive For Ferrari In 2019

Daniel Ricciardo was repeatedly asked questions about his future at the Drivers Press Conference on Thursday, prior to the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Specifically, his alleged agreement with Scuderia Ferrari to drive for the Italian squad alongside Sebastian Vettel in 2019.

The Australian driver was very clear about the situation. “That’s not true. I can say that.”

After his great win in Shanghai, there has been incessant rumours about a supposed pre-agreement between the driver and Ferrari. Ricciardo said: “I have only had talks with Red Bull. Since last year we have been open with each other.

“I think through the media as well, everyone is aware Red Bull is interested in keeping me. We have had some talks regarding that. I am aware of other reports but there hasn’t been anything else. They aren’t true. At least up until now, certainly not.”

Loyalty To Red Bull Racing

Ricciardo has participated in 82 races with Red Bull and is a product of the team’s young driver programme. Emotions will, probably, be involved in his upcoming decision, and the Aussie explained it.

“There will always be a bit of loyalty to Red Bull. It’s been 10 years since I was in Red Bull junior team. It’s a long time and they really set it all up for me to make this happen. At some point, obviously, you have to weigh up what does what. Regardless, there will always be something and I will always show love.”

Ricciardo has scored 37 points in the first three races of the year and is fourth in the World Drivers’ Championship.

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix is underway this Friday with the first two practice sessions completed.
