Kyle Busch holds off Kevin Harvick in a showcase of NASCAR’s Best

Love it or hate it, Kyle Busch’s win at Sunday’s O’Reilly 500 at Texas Motor Speedway was a classic showcase between two drivers at the height of their careers. For the final 20 laps, Busch held off a hard charging Kevin Harvick, earning his first win of the season.

Some fans were overjoyed seeing the two battle it out, but others seemed to want more parity.

Either way, Busch and Harvick are making a case for being the two best drivers that NASCAR has to offer.

Yes, I know. Seven-time champion Jimmie Johnson is still very much an active driver in the cup series, not to mention the constant domination we’ve seen from Martin Truex Jr. recently. However, Busch and Harvick have raised the standard of consistency in the Cup series.

Kevin Harvick has had the majority of success so far this season, and not just comparative to Busch. After Austin Dillon took the victory in the Daytona 500, Harvick went on the run of his career, winning three races in a row at Atlanta, Las Vegas, and Phoenix.

Over the course of his 18-year career, Harvick’s top win total in a season was five in 2014 and 2006. To be over halfway there with 29 races remaining will give Harvick a great chance to have his best season yet.

As for Kyle Busch, he has been consistently performing over the past couple of seasons. Busch has failed to reach four wins in a season just twice in the past seven years, along with his championship in 2015.

Together, the two have now shared eight 1-2 finishes, which is the highest mark amongst active drivers in the series. Three of those finishes have come this season, which shows how both drivers are in their primes right now. Its obvious that the two are at the top of their games. Don’t expect the sheer dominance to end any time soon.
