Konica Minolta Cadillac Grabs Rolex 24 Pole Position

The returning winners of the Rolex 24, the Konica Minolta Cadillac Prototype team have made a promising start at their attempt at winning two years in a row. The team grabbed pole position with a time of 1:36.083 yesterday during qualifying, which was 0.007 faster than the second-placed team, Acura Team Penske.

The championed Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso’s team did not get the ideal time, with a 13th place on the grid for the weekend. His team’s car, the United Autosport LMP2, got a time of 1:37.008. Fellow F1 driver Lance Stroll’s team, Jackie Chan Racing DCR JOTA ORECA LMP2 placed sixth in the lineup with a time of 1:36.492. And for any new endurance fans, yes, Jackie Chan does own a franchise. Jackie Chan rooted for his team last year at the WEC 6 Hours of Shanghai.

Moving down to the GT Le Mans class, the top GTLM car will be placed 18th on the grid. The Corvette Racing Chevrolet Corvette C7.R clocked in a time of 1:42.779, beating every other GT car. The #66 Ford GT Chip Ganassi Racing car placed 19th, with its sister car placing 22nd. The Porsche 911 cars placed nearly identical to each other, coming in at 20th and 21st.

And now down to the GT Daytona class, coming in at 27th place, first place in its class was the Spirit Of Race Ferrari 488 GT3. The five person team of Risi Competizione in the same car placed 29th, second in the class.

The #22 Tequila Patron ESM Nissan DPi Prototype car had trouble during qualifying, only clocking in 2 laps. With a time of 1:46.129, they will be placed 28th on the grid and dead last out of all of the prototypes that ran.

The countdown is almost over, as the Rolex 24 goes on air on FOX this Saturday at 2 PM EST.
