Lance Stroll hopes that F3 and F4 experience will help at Monza

Williams’ Lance Stroll is hoping that his experience in European Formula 3 and Italian Formula 4 will help him for this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix. Monza marks the fifth circuit on the 2017 calendar that Stroll has previously driven on.

Although he has experience around the high speed turns of Monza, not all of them are positive, and most recently in F3, his races at Monza were a complete write off, securing an 11th place, a retirement and a disqualification. This however, is not putting Stroll off this weekend: “I have been there in Formula 3, so this is another circuit that I have raced on, in fact the fifth and the last of the year that I know from a racing point of view.”

The famed Monza circuit is the home of Ferrari, being in the heart of Italy and motorsport culture. Year in and year out, the race always delivers a fantastic atmosphere, and Stroll is especially looking forward to this: “You just can’t get away from the history of the track and the passion of the Tifosi who love the Scuderia. The atmosphere hits you as soon as you arrive and it is a great feeling for all of us drivers.”

With its Mercedes power unit and its traditional low downforce and low drag aero and chassis Williams should be competitive this weekend in Monza, with power being the name of the game at the circuit. After securing his maiden podium on a similar track this season, Stroll is aiming to emulate his result from Baku in Italy: “I think our car should be good there from what I have seen, and hope we can get a good result,” he said.
