Todd Gilliland dominates K&N East-West Showdown

Friday’s K&N East-West Showdown at Iowa Speedway was the Todd Gilliland show, to put it simply.

Gilliland lead 148 laps in route to his seventh K&N Pro Series win of the season.

Gilliland’s win was his second straight East-West showdown victory and the No. 16 car’s fourth win in a row at Iowa Speedway.

“That’s huge for Bill [McAnally],” Gilliland said. “He’s got all the trophies in the main entrance way of the shop. It’s obviously a really special place to Bill McAnally Racing right now.”

Gilliland had the fastest car on the track, and it wasn’t close. His only competition all night came from Ben Kennedy, who would be penalized for not maintaining pace under caution in the last 20 laps.

Kennedy was sent to the back and would finish 7^th.

Behind Gilliland, Chase Purdy held off Chris Eggleston and Harrison Burton to finish second, while the latter two finished third and fourth respectively.

The K&N Pro East Series will now go to Watkins Glen on August 4, while the K&N Pro West Series travels to Douglas County on August 26.

Standings

Gilliland’s victory moves him to just six points behind Harrison Burton for first place in the K&N Pro East Series with four races to go.

“It helps us catch up to Harrison Burton (on the East) and also pull away from Chris Eggleston (in the West),” Gilliland said. “The finishes are really coming in right now, so we just need to keep the momentum rolling.”
