Daniil Kvyat has suggested that Red Bull Racing may make a decision about his Formula 1 future this weekend at the Hungarian Grand Prix. The bosses of Red Bull recently admitted that Kvyat’s team mate, Carlos Sainz Jr, will again be racing for Toro Rosso in 2018, and also hinted that the Russian may also remain at the Italian team.

“Honestly, we’re not far from the point where we learn all about 2018,” Kvyat admitted. “If it happens before the summer break that’s good, but if it’s longer, I also do not worry. Yes, there is a date in my contract by which the management must make a decision about the extension, but I also have good relations with Red Bull and they always try to inform me of the decision as soon as possible.
“As I said, we are very close,” added the 23 year old.
“As long as I’m in standby mode I can only wait, but I still believe in the team, I want to be part of the project, I’m still very young so I have time. I do not see any reason why I want to leave.”
If Kvyat’s services are retained by Red Bull and Toro Rosso for 2018, it will follow a string of incidents that the driver has been involved with, causing a first corner accident in Austria which ended the races of Fernando Alonso and Max Verstappen as well as colliding with his team mate in Britain.
Kvyat made his Formula 1 debut for Toro Rosso in 2014 and was promoted to Red Bull for 2015 to be signed for a second year. After a disappointing start to 2016, Kvyat found himself demoted back to Toro Rosso where he remains today.
Having spent three full seasons in the sport, it is time that the driver began to mature and develop, however, Kvyat continues to make rookie mistakes, which brings about questions as to whether he actually deserves a seat with Toro Rosso in 2018 while other drivers such as Pierre Gasly wait in the sidelines for an F1 drive.
