Frederic Vasseur has been confirmed as the new team principal of the Sauber F1 Team, where he will replace former principal, Monisha Kaltenborn.

Frederic Vasseur confirmed as new Sauber team principal

Vasseur was previously the team principal of Renault in 2016, however, left prior to the start of the 2017 Season due to a number of disagreements within the team, mainly with Cyril Abiteboul who is now the Managing Director of the Enstone-based team.

“I’m very proud to be joining Sauber Motorsport AG, and wish to thank the company’s shareholders for their trust in me,” said Vasseur. “I’ve been impressed by the facilities in Hinwil and by the talent and ambition of the workforce, and I very much look forward to complementing the team with my experience and determination and drive all people in the right direction in everything they do. I am convinced that all together we will achieve ambitious targets. I cannot wait to start working with our drivers, engineers and all the staff. I look forward to contributing to the next important phase in the development of the team.”

Monisha Kalternborn left Sauber unexpectedly leading up to the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, and since her departure, Vasseur has been in pole position to take over her role. Vasseur, who founded ART Grand Prix, will also take on the role of Managing Director and CEO for Sauber Motorsport AG, and is set to start in his new role after the British Grand Prix on July 17th.
