Lucas Di Grassi has taken pole position for the Berlin ePrix in the Super Pole 1 qualifying session. Di Grassi set a time of a 1:08.312, and was one thousandth of a second ahead of Jose Maria Lopez who will start alongside the Abt Schaeffler Audi Sport driver on the front row of the grid in second place.
Felix Rosenqvist qualified in third place, and starts alongside his Mahindra Racing team mate, Nick Heidfeld on the second row of the grid, placing the pair in a good position to take a large haul of points in round seven
Di Grassi’s championship rival, Sebastien Buemi, qualified down in 14th place for Renault e.dams and will start alongside former champion, Nelson Piquet Jr on the seventh row of the grid. Through this result, Buemi is facing a difficult seventh race of the 2016-2017 Season, and with Di Grassi starting from pole, looks set to have his championship lead cut by a considerable amount of points, with Di Grassi already being awarded with three points for securing pole position.
As the circuit that runs around the historic Tempelhof airport is one that Buemi has traditionally run well at however, finishing second in 2015, it will be interesting to see how the reigning champion will perform when starting from a lower grid slot at the circuit. For this reason, the seventh race of the season is shaping up to be an exciting one as Buemi tries to hold onto his current championship lead over Di Grassi.
