Magnussen, 24, has been confirmed at the American outfit for nest season, and has signed a two year deal with Formula 1‘s youngest team. It is understood that Magnussen has the option to extend the deal that he holds with the team, to drive for them also in 2019.

Magnussen made his Formula 1 debut in 2014 driving for McLaren alongside Jenson Button. Despite securing a podium finish in his first ever race in F1, Magnussen was dropped by McLaren at the end of the season in order to make way for an arriving Fernando Alonso from Ferrari.

2016 marked Magnussen’s second full season in Formula 1, driving for the Renault F1 Team after being released by from his contract as reserve driver for McLaren at the end of 2015. So far this season, Magnussen has scored a total of 7 points, with his highest finish being seventh place at the Russian Grand Prix earlier this year.

Haas F1 made their Formula 1 debut this year at the season opening Australian Grand Prix. So far in their first season, the American outfit have scored a total of 29 points, leaving them in eight place in the Constructors Championship. Their current drivers are Romain Grosjean and Esteban Gutierrez, however, with the arrival of Magnussen, it appears that Gutierrez is set to leave the team at the end of this season, meaning that Magnussen will partner Grosjean for 2017. The departure of the young Mexican driver comes as no surprise, with Gutierrez publicly announcing earlier last month that he was seeking employment elsewhere, with his relationship with the Haas F1 Team becoming stale.
