In a recent report, it has been revealed that Kevin Magnussen has been approached by the Haas F1 Team for the 2017 Formula 1 Season.
Kevin Magnussen receives offer to drive for Haas F1 in 2017
Magnussen currently races for the Renault F1 Team alongside Jolyon Palmer, and has been in constant competition against his team mate over the past season, with both drivers trying to secure their place at the Enstone based team for 2017.
The offer given to Magnussen would mean that he would drive for Haas for two years, and would not need to bring any sponsorship to the table. Magnussen is the main candidate for the seat, should Haas not wish to keep Esteban Gutierrez for a second season.
Last year following the announcement that Haas F1 were to enter Formula 1 in 2016, Magnussen was an option for the team. Romain Grosjean however, pipped Magnussen to the post, securing the drive for the team’s debut year in Formula 1. This indicates however, that Magnussen has been a candidate for Haas in the past, being in talks with the team during the 2015 Season at the Italian Grand Prix.
Although Ferrari are keen to have one of their junior drivers at the team, it is understood that Gutierrez is free to look elsewhere on the grid for 2017, not just being restricted to Haas F1.
This announcement comes after Gutierrez stated that he is considering other drivers in Formula 1 for next year following Haas F1’s delay in announcing their 2017 driver lineup.
With Magnussen now having an option to go to Haas F1 in 2017 and also being in the spot for a second season at the Renault F1 Team alongside Nico Hulkenberg, the former McLaren driver is in a very fortunate position, having the possibility of two teams wanting him for 2017, making him a driver in demand.
