Following the set $8.5 billion takeover of Formula 1 by Liberty Media, F1 boss, Bernie Ecclestone has said that has been asked to stay on for another three years as Formula 1 boss.
Bernie Ecclestone to stay for three more years after F1 takeover
American media company, Liberty Media, are set to take over Formula 1 in a reported $8.5 billion deal reports have confirmed. After this takeover, Formula 1 boss, Bernie Ecclestone has said that he has been asked to stay on in his role for another three years.
Ecclestone confirmed this to the Reuters news agency: “They want me to be here for three years”
Ecclestone, who is 85 has run Formula 1 for 40 years.
Beginning as a competitor in Formula 1, Ecclestone entered two Grand Prix in 1958 however, failed to qualify for both. He then swiftly moved to being a manager, managing the 1970 Formula 1 World Champion, Jochen Rindt.
Ecclestone’s rise to power came following his purchase of the Brabham F1 team in 1972, running the team for a total of fifteen years. This then allowed Ecclestone to become a member of the Formula 1 Constructors Association, leading to his current standing in the sport as Formula 1 boss.
Ahead of this deal, Ecclestone has confirmed that he will miss the Singapore Grand Prix that will take place on September 18th, being needed in London for negotiations.
An F1 board meeting has been scheduled for September 13th, in which the deal from Liberty Media could be finalised and confirmed.
This raises many questions about Ecclestone’s presence in Formula 1, with many wondering what his future will be.
