Ratings Strong For Start Of World Series

Ratings Strong For Start Of World Series

Nielsen’s ratings have been released for the first two games of the World Series, and for Fox Sports, it’s a lot of good news.

Ratings Numbers Good For Network

Game 1 was highest rated program of night on television

According to the network, over 13 million people tuned in to watch game 1 of the World Series.  That made it the highest rated program on any network Friday night.  Fox says over 12.2 million people watched Game 1 on Fox, with the remainder watching on Fox Deportes, Univision, and Fox Sports streaming services.  The game peaked at over 14 million viewers in the quarter-hour between 10:15 and 10:30 pm.  The matchup was the second most-watched Game 1 since 2018, with only last year’s first game of the series between the Yankees and Dodgers beating it.

Game 2 gave Fox one of its highest Saturday numbers of the year

While Game 2 of the series did experience a drop-off from Game 1, Fox says it still did a very good number according to their research.  The network says over 11.5 million viewers watched Los Angeles tie up the series with the Blue Jays.  Only last year’s Game 2 between the Yankees and Dodgers had more viewers since 2019.  The game was again the most watched of the day on any network, and was Fox’s most watched Saturday prime-time telecast since January, which was an NFL playoff matchup.  The broadcast peaked at over 13.5 million viewers at 10:45 pm eastern as the Dodgers were taking the lead and putting some distance between themselves and the Blue Jays.

Nielsen’s ratings numbers only include one television market this year because World Series games in Canada are aired on Rogers Sportsnet, which is not counted by the media research company.  It will be interesting to see what the numbers from the three Dodgers’ home games in the series rate, especially Game 3, which lasted deep into Tuesday morning.
