Pat McAfee Interviews President Donald J. Trump On Veteran’s Day

The Pat McAfee Show aired live on Tuesday from Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island in South Carolina, in celebration of Veterans Day.

McAfee welcomed President Donald J. Trump to the show, marking his very first appearance on the program. Trump’s segment occurred in the second hour of the show, which aired on ESPN.

The interview with Trump covered a number of topics, as the 45th and 47th president took shots at his political adversaries, touted his own achievements, and questioned the Washington Commanders’ name change.

Trump’s conversation with McAfee also included the president blasting the NFL’s new kickoff rules that were introduced last season. He also discussed the state of college athletics, along with his experience at the Ryder Cup.

McAfee encouraged the president to shout out a few “oorahs!” to the military crowd, and he happily did so.

The president also touted McAfee’s College GameDay colleague Nick Saban, saying that he should get involved in fixing the NIL situation in college sports.

Someone in the Trump White House has a connection with The Pat McAfee Show. Last week, McAfee cited info from a White House source, announcing that Trump would be in attendance for the Detroit Lions vs. Washington Commanders game. Then, a few days later, Trump made his first appearance on the program.

McAfee acknowledged that the interview would be polarizing but did say that former President Barack Obama was also invited on the show. However, Obama did not come on, though McAfee said that the 44th president could be appearing on the show at a later date.

“I would like to say though, for the media people that are going to be mad about that happening, that’s the President of the United States. It’s Veterans Day. He’s the Commander-in-Chief.

Obviously, if we’re going to have the opportunity to talk to him, we’re going to,” McAfee said. “As soon as we found out this was an opportunity, I reached out to President Obama as well and his team to potentially come on. Because of scheduling and conflicts, they were very kind and obviously sent incredible hope for the veterans and were thankful… but because of his schedule, he wasn’t able to do that. But I did reach out.”

After the interview concluded, McAfee made it clear that he was honored to speak to the president.

“Listening to him talk about sports is cool. Because I think he is a legit sports fan.”
