With the National Football League holding its “Salute to Service” weekend prior to Veterans Day, one may have expected to see President Donald Trump on the Fox Sports broadcast from Northwest Stadium as he took in the game between the Washington Commanders and Detroit Lions.  But Trump went one better, joining Kenny Albert and Jonathan Vilma in the broadcast booth in the third quarter of the broadcast.

Albert started by asking Trump about taking part in the halftime proceeding of swearing in new members of the United States Military.

“That was an honor, and they are just fantastic,” Trump said of the ceremony and recruits.

Albert then asked about Trump’s own experience playing football as a young man at New York Military Acadedmy.

“I played tight end, but it was not quite football like this.  It was a little bit easier,” Trump said.  “We had a quarterback who didn’t have a very strong arm.  I would say 10 yards was a long pass.”

As for the quality of his opponents on the gridiron, the president admitted he never had to worry about getting tackled by someone of the caliber of Vilma.

“If I was tackled by him, I would never forget it,” Trump joked of the former Miami Hurricanes and Saints linebacker.

Vilma asked the president if he was a Giants or Jets fan as a youngster.  Trump admitted liking both teams, mentioning how former Giants owner Bob Tisch was a friend of his family’s.  He also mentioned his friendship with current Jets owner Woody Johnson, and feeling that the Jets will eventually make a turnaround.

Albert and Vilma discussed Vilma’s career with both the Miami Hurricanes and Vilma’s Super Bowl win with the president, got into a discussion about Fox’s newest color analyst Drew Brees, and other connections Presidents of the United States have with the sports of football, among other topics in the almost ten minutes Trump was in the booth.
