More than a month after being arrested on assault charges following a late-night brawl, former New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez has officially been fired as an NFL commentator by Fox Sports.
TMZ was the first to report that Sanchez had been fired, with a spokespoerson for the network telling them “We can confirm that Mark Sanchez is no longer with the network. There will be no further comment at this time.”
Sanchez was arrested October 4 in Indianapolis, after getting into a fight with a truck driver. The driver ended up stabbing Sanchez in the torso, requiring him to be hospitalized. The broadcaster was in town preparing to broadcasting that Sunday’s game between the Colts and the Las Vegas Raiders for Fox Sports.
Sanchez was charged with felony battery and several misdemeaors, spending over a week in the hospital and eventually being booked into the Marion County Jail before being released.

As he was leaving the jail, reporter Max Lewis asked Sanchez if he had anything to say.
“Right now, I’m just focused on the recovery,” Sanchez said, “and I just wanted to thank the first responders, Eskenazi Hospital. … I just want to thank Dr. [Lindsey] Mossler, the surgeon. She saved my life, so I’m grateful for that. Sorry I can’t answer all your questions.”
In addition to the criminal case, Sanchez is also being sued civilly by the alleged victim, 69-year-old truck driver Perry Tole.
Fox Sports Appeared To be Moving On Before Announcement
Network had two other broadcasters fill in, made hire for replacement
The announcement of Sanchez’s departure from Fox Sports seems to be just a procedural move. Sanchez had been off the air recovering from his wounds since the incident, with Brady Quinn and Mark Schlereth filling in for his role.
The network has also agreed to a deal with former Chargers and Saints quarterback Drew Brees, who is set to pair with Sanchez’s old partner, Adam Amin, beginning September 16.
