Vijay Singh Returns With Gas Left In Tank

One thing fascinating about the sport of golf, is despite the various possible injuries or the mental and physical time clock of a career, your journey is often written under your own terms. A similar reality the PGA Tour has offered for now 62-year-old, Vijay Singh. Singh is a 34 time Tour winner, who has been a part of the Tour since 1993 and still showing why he deserves recognition. With his most recent action being the Sony open in Hawaii, Singh shocked many in attendance over the weekend with strong play. Ultimately making the cut deep into the final rounds of play for a 40th place tie, and $31,522 in earnings for the tournament. Since a little over a decade having played full time on the Tour, Singh clearly still has some left in the tank.

Fresh As Ever Before

The last those have seen of Singh came in a 2024 Masters Tournament showing, where he tied for 58th place and earned $45,000. Now in an unexpected return to the Tour in Hawaii, he reminded those why he is so highly respected in the sport of golf. Even being inducted into the Golf Hall Of Fame just by the age of 43-years-old, he showed early on how high his ceiling could be.

“Playing the regular Tour is a lot more pressure, I think, to play well,” Singh said. “There’s a lot more work required to go out there and be ready to play. I practice more when I play the regular Tour. The preparation is a little bit different.”

Spending some time on the Champions Tour, a sense of comfortability overcame Singh with his enjoyment of the format in comparison to the PGA Tour. Now with a chance to get back into the full swing of things, the veteran understands the challenge ahead of him if he becomes fully committed once again.

“Playing the Champions tour, it’s a lot more relaxing for me. When I started playing there, I don’t want to come back here,” Singh said. “Like, it’s so easy to play there, you get practice rounds in the cart and pro-am in the cart. Over here, it’s a full four days, plus two extra days of playing and walking.”

Singh Staying Optimistic

There is no set in stone confirmation of the long time veteran being expected to play a full time schedule within the PGA Tour this season. The age of Singh is the most prominent factor at play right now, adding a recent undisclosed injury that managed to snap his 31 consecutive Masters Tournament appearances streak. The clock is ticking by all means and it’s now up to the man himself to compete.

With his sixth place all time ranking within the PGA Tour career earnings standings, Singh totals in at $73,312,738 and is still looking to bump up that total this 2026 season.
