Major Injury Puts Tiger Woods on Rehab Once Again

With all of the many tragic things to have publicly come to light recently for Tiger Woods, the hurdles just keep stacking in what has already been a difficult period. Woods took part in announcing Tuesday evening that he recently underwent surgery for a ruptured Achilles. Tiger since 1996 has since racked up a total of 82 career wins, in what can be argued as the most successful in the sport of golf. Having a setback like such will only push back Woods, who is currently 49-years-old and now faced with an unexpected timeline. Woods has yet to play in the PGA Tour this season, but remained active in TGL matches throughout.

Major Setback Ahead For Tiger

This is not just the typical gut wrenching injury in an athlete’s career, this may very well be a career impeding for Woods. At a seasoned age within the sport, the timeline is very thin compared to those still gathering their experience. In his announcement, it became aware to supporters this occurred during practice at his own residence. A truly unfortunate event, one Woods didn’t have many words for as well according to his statement.

“I am back home now and plan to focus on my recovery and rehab, thank you for all the support,” Woods said.

In a familiar set of occurrences, this is actually the second injury and  surgery that Woods has undergone in recent times. Having a micro decompression surgery on his back according to reports, was just the last roadblock faced in September for the veteran. Only Woods truly knows what his body will be capable of once hopefully fully healed, leaving room for maybe one last PGA Tour comeback. Having an already exhausted list of injuries throughout his career, it will be one many keep a special eye on.

What Does This Possibly Mean?

For starters, we now have to honestly put in question the true return and time table for Woods.

“As I began to ramp up my own training and practice at home, I felt a sharp pain in my left Achilles, which was deemed to be ruptured,” Woods said.

Attempting to stay ready and prepared despite being a hair away from 50, is the very thing that resulted in his injury. The many new faces in the sport have essentially “taken over” the limelight and deservingly so. With the talent level increasing on a daily basis, the playing field continues to become extremely difficult for the possibility of a return from Woods. Although this Achilles surgery stands at the forefront, he has overcome similar story lines many times before and seen his awaited return on the other side.

Regardless if Woods is able to make the return or not, his accolades speak volumes as it stands in record today. A total of 15 major championships, two Players Championships, and another handful of achievements will keep his place in the sport warm. With the expectation of long awaited rest and rehab, it will be an uphill battle to full recovery and condition to compete at a respectable level.
