,As the Ryder Cup kicked off its much anticipated tournament play, the headlines around it are catching the eyes and attention of many. Whether it be discussions surrounding the team USA and their choice for the expected lineup, or the dislike starting to brew for this event in its entirety. Brandel Chamblee brought into question the ability of veteran Bryson DeChambeau, calling him a “captain’s nightmare.” Quickly adding another layer into the already tense reality of this Ryder Cup set to come to an end Sunday evening. As the single matches get underway, the anticipated matchup has been set up for a showdown between Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy.
Bad Blood Or Competitiveness?
Now there is no question of talent within the field of athletes on both sides of play. The starting point comes in the interactions seen throughout the weekend, and exchanges between fans and golfers. Ryder Cup play is a different environment seen throughout most of the PGA Tour season, being its now Europe against USA.
“You know, look, in between shots, say whatever you want to me,” Mcllroy said. “That’s totally fine. Whenever they are still doing it while you are over the ball and trying to hit your shot, that’s the tough thing.”
The quick but serious encounters with both respective fan bases, have resulted in more discourse from athletes seen before. On the other hand it has seemed to fuel the Europe team, resulting in their advantage thus far. Headlines before the tournament began seemed to flood the web, now it seems to be coming to fruition in real time.
Primetime Matchup
Play will come to an end Sunday evening for those in competition, but not before the two top golfers recognized in the sport compete for bragging rights. In a head to head battle, Scheffler and Mccllroy will show those why they are so highly recognized and respected. With team USA needing a significant showing on the last day, a great start will come in the play of Scheffler. While also adding the necessary viewpoint of captain Keegan Bradley, who has been there every step adding motivation.
“We’re sticking to our plan,” Bradley said. “We’re not going to panic, we’re not going to panic and make those sort of mistakes, we’re going to stick to what we know. We have a lot of confidence in them.”
The Europe team will try to close the door on any opportunity of hope the USA team may have in their quest for a huge Sunday turnaround. It has been an event many expected to stand in the favor of the Bradley created roster. Yet, McIlroy and company have shown why they are so highly respected in this sport.
