Luke Clanton Shares His Thoughts On The Being A Pro

After making his debut at the RBC Canadian Open, Luke Clanton is settling into the pro circuit.  The young rookie is gaining a solid following, and his upbeat energy is keeping fans engaged with the new pro on the field.  In a recent interview on The Scoop with Claire Rogers, Clanton shares his thoughts on playing on the Tour and with other players he has only previously watched.

Clanton On The Tour

When asked about the biggest surprise since going pro, Clanton says that the PGA is surprisingly easier than college golf.  The trainers have been nicer, the scheduling has been nicer, and he even says at one point he feels like he is being treated like a king.  He also finds it hard to get mad.  Clanton says that he is just playing golf, the thing he loves, and even when he misses a shot, he just can’t find the energy to get mad about it.

Clanton On The Other Pros

Luke Clanton is still star-struck when it comes to the other pros on the field.  Now that he has his Tour card and is playing on the field, he is meeting all these people he has looked up to previously, and now he is right next to them.  He has described feeling himself start shaking when meeting these players right before setting up a shot.  Specifically, Clanton mentions a moment involving Rory McIlroy.

“Two weeks ago, I played with Rory McIlroy, it was nuts. I think we teed off on 10 pretty early in the morning. The range session, the putting, chipping was fine; I wasn’t nervous. We walked to the tee 10 minutes before. So we get up there, I was fine, I said hi to him, I was so excited. I get up to the tee and put my ball in the ground, and my hand starts going like this, and I was like,e I need to chill out a second. I took it back, I couldn’t feel the club, and I was like, ‘just please make contact’. And it went right down the middle, and I was like, ‘thank God’. Rory was amazing with me and super nice with everything.“

Clanton goes on to mention how nice all the other players are to him.  They have all been very welcoming to the rookie as he makes his debut.  No doubt that he will still be star-struck when he gets the chance to play with Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler.

What Comes Next

Luke Clanton continues to bring his positive attitude to the game.  Fans are seeing the joy he has from meeting the best in the world and find it very endearing.  Clanton is having a hard time getting angry at all, a welcome change of pace after what happened at the US Open, both on the field and in the locker rooms.  Fans are looking forward to seeing what this newcomer can bring to the sport.  Clanton is also eager to show what he can bring.  Hopefully, make it to majors like the Masters someday.
