Scottie Scheffler Reveals Why He’d Love to Visit Australia and New Zealand

Scottie Scheffler has shared his desire to play golf in Australia and visit New Zealand, but he says family life will likely stop him from adding more international events to his schedule.

The world No. 1 spoke about his travel plans while meeting with reporters ahead of the Genesis Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club. Although he enjoys playing golf around the world, he said his priorities have changed since becoming a father.

Scheffler explained that spending time with his wife and young children during the off-season is more important than playing in extra tournaments overseas.

Family Comes Before More International Golf

Scheffler said he would love the chance to play some of Australia’s famous Sandbelt golf courses. He also revealed that visiting New Zealand has been a long-time dream for his wife.

“I’m at a time in my life where I have a young family at home and young kids,” Scheffler said. “The fall is a special time for our family. It’s where we can really check out and be together, and I get to spend a lot of time with my kids.”

He added that he still hopes to play more golf outside the United States in the future. “But at the same time, I love golf, and I would love to be able to play more internationally. Australia and New Zealand are places we would love to be able to go to. My wife has always wanted to go to New Zealand… Going to play the Sandbelt in Australia would be pretty special as well.”

Scheffler Stays Focused Despite PGA Tour Changes

Scheffler arrived at the Genesis Scottish Open in strong form. In 2025, he won six PGA Tour titles, including two major championships, and claimed the PGA Tour Player of the Year award for the fourth straight season. He has not matched that number of victories this season, but he has remained consistent. So far, he has recorded one victory, nine top-five finishes and four runner-up results.

His comments also come as the PGA Tour prepares for major changes to its schedule. Last month, PGA Tour chief executive and commissioner Brian Rolapp announced a new structure that will begin in 2028.

The new format will introduce the Championship and Challenger Series, with promotion and relegation between the two levels. The top schedule will continue to revolve around the four major championships and The Players Championship.

The PGA Tour also plans to increase the number of top events held outside the United States between September and January. Even with those changes, Scheffler suggested he is unlikely to expand his international schedule. For now, he remains committed to balancing his career with family life while leaving the door open to visiting Australia and New Zealand when the timeis right.
