Just one month before the 2025 Masters Tournament, legendary golfer Tiger Woods suffered from a ruptured Achilles tendon. It was a painful endeavor for Woods and landed him a surgery plus a lengthy recovery time, followed by another surgery. Tonight, Woods is proud to announce that he is making his return to competitive golf, starting with the TGL.
Tiger Woods Recovery
Tonight may be Tiger Woods’ grand return after his surgery, but he hasn’t actually played a game since the 2024 Open Championship. Early in 2025, he had a delayed start after his mother passed away, and he took some time off to grieve. Then his tendon ruptured. After that, the only thing he could do was rest and go through physical rehabilitation until he had a disk replacement later in the year. However, he was actually cleared to putt last December. There were still some steps he needed to take before making a return, which is why he hasn’t played professionally until now.
Woods In The TGL
Coming directly from the PGA Tour’s official site, the news was dropped this morning that Woods would be making his return. He will, of course, play for his team, the Jupiter Links, which needs two wins during tonight’s game to win. One for the chance, one for the gold. The high-tech tournament was founded by Woods so it would be perfect for his grand return. Sure, he missed nearly the entire season, but the heat will be high for these matches. The competitive environment will put some fire under him to perform his best.
The Masters And The Champions
Something Tiger Woods has had sitting with him since New Year’s is that he now qualifies for the PGA Tour Champions. It’s the seniors circuit that all the greats of the past have gone in after turning 50. The players of the Champions are excited about the idea of Woods playing against them again. He has defeated all of them back when he was first making a name for himself. Now they want to see if he can do it again.
Then there’s the Master’s Tournament. That major is only two weeks away. The question there is, will Tiger Woods be able to play? The TGL is a good start as it is very different from the fields of the Augusta National. During the debates about the TGL and back injuries, Rory McIlroy has said that he plays harder on the Tour than on the TGL. Woods wants to play the Masters, but he hasn’t said for sure he will be there. Being a five-time champion of the major, the invitation is always sent his way regardless. The Augusta National would be happy to have him on.
Comeback For Woods
Tiger Woods is a name that is synonymous with golf. He dominated the sport to the point where everyone has heard his name. The fans are excited to see him back, and so are the players. Tiger Woods has also been itching to return to the sport he loves. It’s been almost two years, and if he can manage to win it for his team on the TGL, that would be and incredibly opener for him. If he can manage a Master’s win, then the legend lives on.
