Back in May, Billy Horschel had to announce that he would be taking a step back for the rest of the year. Horschel underwent preventative surgery on his hip in early May after the RBC Heritage. He has spent the rest of his time since then focusing on rest, recovery, and rehab. Now, Billy Horschel is happy to announce that he will be playing as soon as next month. Horschel won’t be sidelined for the rest of the year.
Billy Horschel’s Announcement
On his personal Instagram, Billy Horschel dropped the exciting news along with a few caveats that come with it. The biggest news is that Horschel will be playing at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth to defend his title. The event is on September 11-14, so he will have some extra time to prepare. The former champion is looking forward to getting out of the house and back onto the field after a lengthy recovery time.
Unfortunate News For Horschel
With Billy Horschel being out for four months, it means that he missed most of the season. He is behind on points for a few cups that happen at the end of the year. Number one is the FedEx Cup, because of his surgery. He is not only behind on points, but his recovery time meant that he missed it entirely. Number two is the Ryder Cup. Due to his recovery, Horschel does not qualify for the cup. A bit disappointing for him because Horschel has had long-time aspirations of playing on a team. When Horschel stepped back for his surgery, his standing would have put him on the list to be a potential team captain.
The one thing Billy Horschel focused on the most during his announcement was his DP World Tour membership. The BMW PGA Championship is a DP World Tour event, which is why he mentioned that bit of news before moving on to the following.
“Unfortunately, due to my injury, I will not be able to fulfil my minimum requirement for the 2025 season. After consulting with the DP World Tour and their member regulations, the best course of action is for me to resign my membership for 2025.”
Horschel goes on to say that he is committing himself to full-time membership for the 2026 season. He also said that he has enjoyed his DP World membership and competing with players all around the world. Horschel is excited to get back on the field and is ready to do what he can to get back on the list for the Ryder Cup.
2026 Will Be A Big Year
For Billy Horschel he has a lot planned for himself for 2026. Number one is to get back on the DP World Tour, and number two is to get back on the Ryder Cup list. He came very close to making the Ryder Cup as a captain this year before his surgery. It is not hard to see how Horschel will get back up into that position again. Hopefully, this time without landing a shot on a spectator. Next month, fans and players alike can look forward to seeing Horschel on the field, ready to do the thing he loves.
