The Wyndham Championship is the final event of the PGA Tour regular season, and for many players, it’s the last chance to secure a spot in the FedExCup Playoffs. Only the top 70 players in the FedExCup standings after Wyndham will move on to the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the first of a three-event postseason: the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the BMW Championship, and the Tour Championship. Here’s a breakdown of where key players stand and exactly what they need to do at Wyndham to keep their season alive.

Safe Players: Inside the Top 57
The top 57 players in the FedExCup standings are completely safe. No matter what happens at Wyndham, they are guaranteed a spot in the playoffs. These players include many top names like Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Sepp Straka, Russell Henley, Justin Thomas, Harris English, Ben Griffin, J.J. Spaun, Tommy Fleetwood, Keegan Bradley, Shane Lowry, and Robert MacIntyre, who have already had strong seasons. Their focus this week is on improving their position and gaining momentum. Higher playoff seeds can make a big difference in the next stages.
Players With A Strong Chance: Ranks 58–70
This is where the real drama starts. Players ranked 58 through 70 haven’t yet secured their spots. They need to perform well at Wyndham to make sure they don’t get bumped out. Alex Smalley, sitting at No. 70, holds the final playoff spot. Davis Riley (58th) is close, but not guaranteed. To secure his spot, he needs at least a 12th-place finish or better.
Matt Fitzpatrick (60th) and Cam Davis (62nd) have also done enough this season to feel confident heading into the playoffs. Matthias Schmid (66th) and Emiliano Grillo (67th) are also in this tight group. If they make the cut and finish strong, they’ll likely be safe, but a bad round or missed cut could knock them out.
Players Who Need Big Weeks: Outside Top 70
For players ranked 71 and below, only a strong finish — or even a win — will be enough to move up. Just outside the line is Rickie Fowler (71st). He’s very close and could pass others with even a T-63 finish, depending on how everyone else plays. Gary Woodland (73rd) needs about a top-27 finish to move up, while Rasmus Højgaard (84th) would likely need a top-20 finish.
On the other hand, Tom Kim (87th) is in a deeper hole. He probably needs a top-3 result to sneak in. Vince Whaley (106th) has a slim chance, and he’ll likely need a win or solo second to collect the 500 FedExCup points that would push him into the top 70.
