PGA Tour golfer Patton Kizzire has been forced to withdraw from the 2025 PGA Championship after sustaining an injury. The World No. 141 shot three over par during Thursday’s opening round but will no longer participate in the tournament after the PGA Championship confirmed his injury and withdrawal.
Injury Blow for Kizzire Again After Previous Withdrawal
The PGA Championship confirmed on social media that the 39-year-old has withdrawn from the tournament after sustaining an injury.
“Patton Kizzire has withdrawn from the 2025 PGA Championship due to injury,” the PGA Championship posted on X.
It is unclear at this point what injury the American sustained and how long he will be out, as no further details were provided by the PGA Championship.
The injury comes as a big blow for the American, who turned professional in 2008, after he previously withdrew from the Valspar Championship in March following a run of six missed cuts. But the 39-year-old would have needed an extraordinary turn of events to make the weekend at the Championship after a poor opening round at Quail Hollow left him nine over par after 28 holes.
Kizzire Endures Difficult Start to PGA Championship
Kizzire suffered a disappointing start to his second round at the PGA Championship. The 39-year-old carded an even-par 70 in the opening round at Quail Hollow, posting a 34 (−1) on the front nine and a 36 (+1) on the back, to sit tied for 58th on the leaderboard after 18 holes.
He hit four bogeys and a double bogey in his first 10 holes before he had to pull out after sustaining an injury. The American has played in 14 Tour events this year but has missed the cut nine times — including at the Masters tournament at Augusta National last month.
The American’s most recent win on the PGA Tour was at the 2024 Procore Championship. He previously won the 2018 Sony Open in Hawaii and the 2017 OHL Classic at Mayakoba. Before this PGA Championship, he took part in the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic, shooting 67-68-70-69 to finish the tournament tied for 20th at 10 under par. Kizzire put in some solid performances and showcased consistency with four consecutive sub-71 rounds. However, he narrowly missed out on a top-10 result overall.
Just before the start of the PGA Championship, Sahith Theegala pulled out due to a nagging neck injury he has been battling, as fans and pundits begin to express concerns over growing injuries. While no details have been shared regarding the extent of Kizzire’s injury, the 39-year-old will be hoping to kick-start his recovery journey and return to the course as soon as possible.
