WVU Adds Christion Stokes
Christion Stokes, to our eyes, represents one of the most underrated players in the current crop of Mountaineer recruits. Stokes’ stock rose some over the course of the season, and it is possible he still receives the late-season adjustment into four-star territory. As of now, however, he falls just outside that rating. Stokes, however, has been a true two-way player in high school. Primarily offered as a defensive player by colleges, Stokes flashed plenty of grit and toughness at running back, too. We expect Head Coach Neal Brown and the company to plan for him to join the safety room in Morgantown. Either way, we can confirm that WVU adds Stokes, as they received his letter of intent moments ago.
Hard-Nosed Safety
On defense, Stokes played both cornerback and safety. In his own words, Stokes described his style as “hard-nosed but [willing to] adapt to any style of play.” Stokes wants to make the Mountaineer program “better than it already is.” His skills speak to a blue-collar play that will fit WVU’s mold well.
On defense, Stokes brings explosive tackling and aggressive pursuit as his best traits. He considers himself a student of the game, and he should add to his six-foot, 180-pound frame quickly. We expect that Stokes best fits into the mold of the Karl Joseph/KJ Dillon hybrid safety, playing inside the box more often than outside it. In short, his traits just fit.
Welcome to West Virginia
Given his history, we expect that Stokes should grow into his potential rapidly in Morgantown. Once he does, he could quickly become a fan favorite. Based on his film, he is one of our favorite incoming Mountaineers. We certainly welcome him to West Virginia and wish him success.
