The NFL Draft profile for Tyler Goodson reveals some hidden gems. One of Iowa’s best running backs in recent history will enter the NFL draft after coming out a year early. In his three years with the program, Goodson brought excellent agility and speed to the outside for the Hawkeye backfield. After coming off of the bench in his true freshman season in 2019, Goodson earned the starting role in November against rival Minnesota. Since that game, Goodson remained the starter for the duration of his college career.
NFL Draft Profile: Tyler Goodson
Goodson was a three-star running back recruit out of Suwanee, Georgia. He was named Georgia Player of the Year his senior year. Goodson had nearly 30 offers from schools including Colorado, Kentucky, and Michigan State. Goodson enrolled in Iowa and became an immediate impact on the field in 2019. He was the first Hawkeye to lead his team in rushing as a true freshman.
In his junior season last year, Goodson played in 13 games and tallied 1,143 yards and six touchdowns. He rushed for just under five yards per attempt and had four 100+ yard games. In addition to his on-field numbers, Goodson impressed at the NFL Combine. He ran a 4.42-second 40-yard dash and 123-inch broad jump. Hitting the sub-4.5 second mark is impressive, and it shows his breakaway capability. Goodson is likely a late-round selection, potentially a fourth to sixth-round pick. The Atlanta Falcons and Miami Dolphins are among the teams in need of a running back. It would be fitting for the Georgia native to land back in his home state if the Falcons came calling.
At 5’-10” and 199 pounds, Goodson is comparable to Nyheim Hines of the Indianapolis Colts. The two have very similar sizes, and Hines was a touch faster at the Combine, running a 4.38 40-yard dash. However, they both have quick feet and the ability to make players miss and gain speed on the outside. Although Goodson is not going to be a top pick among the 2022 class of running backs, he is a guy that will bring an unbeatable work ethic and shifty running ability to an NFL roster.
