Kaleb Johnson Inks with the Hawkeyes

After attending the raucous environment against Penn State, Kaleb Johnson committed to Iowa and inks with the Hawkeyes on early signing day.

Kirk Ferentz lands a solid running back in the early signing period for the class of 2022 as Kaleb Johnson inks with the Hawkeyes. Johnson is a four-star according to Rivals out of Hamilton, Ohio. He brings great size and speed to the running back room. Johnson is ranked 33rd at his position nationally. He has a 0.8850 rating according to 247 Sports. The incoming freshman will join a talented group of 2022 signees and attend the University of Iowa next season.

Kaleb Johnson Inks with the Hawkeyes

Johnson originally committed to California in late June 2021. However, he was in the group of highly touted recruits that made an official visit to Iowa for the Penn State game in October. After the thrilling finish and electric atmosphere inside Kinnick Stadium, Johnson received an offer from the Hawkeyes. He flipped his commitment from Cal just two days later. The raucous environment of the top-five matchup in Iowa City was impossible to turn down.

Johnson had an impressive 2021 campaign at Hamilton High School. He led his team in rushing. He gathered over 1,000 yards on the season and averaged nearly eight yards per attempt. His high school finished ninth in the conference and played just nine games, but his numbers in those games stand out. The senior stands at six-foot-one-inch and 215 pounds. This makes for a solid build at the running back position. Last May, Johnson attended the Rivals camp series in Indianapolis. He was named the MVP and clocked a 4.5 40-yard dash, adding another key ingredient to his profile. The Hawkeyes build their offense off of the run game, and they add another weapon to the room with Johnson.
