Myles Brennan, LSU’s Senior former starting quarterback, is entering the transfer portal. Brennan hasn’t played for the Tigers since the third game of the 2020 season. Last year against Missouri, he suffered an abdominal injury that sidelined him for the remainder of the season.
LSU Quarterback Myles Brennan Enters Transfer Portal
Coming out of high school in Bay St Louis, Mississippi, many thought Brennan would be the next great quarterback at LSU. He has the mechanics to become a star wherever he ends up. With the news of Ed Orgeron parting ways after this season, this was the right decision by Brennan. Sophomore quarterback Max Johnson has taken full control of the team. Had Brennan not suffered an arm injury, he would likely be in the starting role. While he had to wait his turn, Brennan made the most of it while he could.
What Drove The Decision To Leave
Heading into the 2021 season, Brennan was competing with fellow signal-caller Max Johnson for the starting role under center. But an injury in Fall camp took Brennan out once again. He began his career with the Tigers in 2017 after being a four-star prospect coming out of high school. When Joe Burrow arrived in Baton Rouge in 2018, Brennan saw little action and decided to redshirt that season. He played in just three games that season. Following two years behind Burrow, Brennan’s chance finally came in 2020. But the aforementioned injury ended his run as the starter. In 2020, Brennan passed for 1,112 yards with 11 touchdowns and three interceptions.
What Brennan Can Bring to His Next Team
The now-former LSU signal-caller has great attributes to his game. He can make accurate passes down the field and manages the game well. He will give any team the best chance to win and he can extend drives by rushing out of the pocket when necessary. One thing Brennan did well at LSU was extending drives and avoiding pressure. In five seasons at LSU, Brennan was sacked just 12 times. He was a star in high school for a reason and he proved that in his time in Baton Rouge.
There will be a lot of college football teams calling Brennan and persuading him to come to play for the said program. The opportunity for Brennan to return to his home state of Mississippi and continue playing in the SEC is open. Could he end up in Oxford? Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral is likely gone to the NFL after this season. Tigers fans may not want to hear that, but transferring to a rival is a possibility. However, Brennan might end up taking a different route and transferring out of the conference.
No matter where he ends up, Brennan will be able to compete for a starting role in 2022. If he can avoid any more injuries, he could be one of the many surprises in college football next season. With the transfer portal being the norm in college football, the former Tigers quarterback could be one of the most sought-after players in the portal.
