A Quarterback Of The Future For Kentucky
Following an historic three years in Lexington Terry Wilson’s about to bid farewell to the Unversity of Kentucky. While Mark Stoops does have both Joey Gatewood and Beau Allen on the roster you need to always be looking to the future. The Cats think they have that player in yet another in-state product. Let’s take a look at him with the Kentucky recruiting profile on Kaiya Sheron.
Championship Pedigree
The 6-3 Sheron committed to Kentucky on March 23rd. He picked the Cats over Marshall and West Virginia. In addition he drew interest from Louisville and Purdue. Overall he ranks as the 34th best pro style quarterback in the country and 7th best player in the state of Kentucky. We’ve talked about before Stoops and his staff have made recruiting the best players a priority. As a result four of the top five and six of the top ten players are headed to Lexington.
In a COVID shortened senior season Sheron threw for 1,785 yards and 14 touchdowns. However he really turned heads during his junior campaign where he threw for 3,285 yards and 28 touchdowns. Furthermore he ran for another 959 yards and nine more scores. Trailing Mayfield 31-28 with 28 seconds to go the Briar Jumpers had the ball on their own 13 yard line. Sheron calmly led Somerset down the field and won the game at the buzzer.

Learning A New System
Sheron plays on enrolling in January getting a head start on his freshman year. When he gets there a new person will be in charge of the offense. Following Kentucky’s 41-18 win over South Carolina Stoops made the decision to let both offensive coordinator Eddie Gran and quarterbacks coach Darrin Hinshaw go. As a matter of fact Hinshaw was lead recruiter for Sheron. However he remains firm in his commitment to the Cats. On Tuesday Kentucky reportedly hired Liam Coen as the new offensive coordinator. The current assistant quarterbacks coach for the Los Angeles Rams certainly fits Stoops’ idea of a more up tempo attack. That’s definitely what incoming players want to hear.
