Kentucky Recruiting Profile Christian Lewis

Impact Player at a Position of Need

Over the last few years one problem area on the the Kentucky football team is at wide receiver. With the exception of Lynn Bowden, getting consistent production has been hard to find, driving True Blue Fans crazy. It’s an area Mark Stoops and his staff addressed with the 2021 class. In fact three of their 17 commits are at the receiver position. One player in particular has fans excited for the future. Let’s take a look at him with our Kentucky recruiting profile on Christian Lewis.

A Huge Get

The 6-3 185 pounder from out of Pleasant Grove High School in Alabama has the size that college coaches look for these days. During his junior season he caught 75 passes for 1,398 yards and 20 touchdowns for a team that went to the Class 5A title game. As a senior he had another strong season hauling in 70 receptions for 1,235 yards and 18 touchdowns. He again led Pleasant Grove to a Class 5A runner-up finish. In addition Lewis was a three sport star and he also ran track and was second team all-state selection in basketball. He recently participated in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game where he more than held his own against Alabama commit Ga’Quincy McKinstry, the number one cornerback in the nation.

Lewis committed to Kentucky on June 30th, picking the Cats over Arkansas, Georgia Tech and Tennessee among others. Ole Miss and the “Lane Train” made a late run at him. However he stayed firm with Kentucky. Keeping him in the fold was priority one for Stoops and his staff. He ranks as the 10th best player in Alabama and 58th best wide receiver in the country.

How He Fits In

When Lewis gets to Lexington he’ll have a new offensive coordinator running the show. Following Kentucky’s 41-18 win over South Carolina Stoops let offensive coordinator Eddie Gran and quarterbacks coach Darrin Hinshaw go. On Tuesday word broke the Cats are hiring Liam oen.  Currently he’s the assistant quarterback’s coach for the Los Angeles Rams. Coen played college football at Massachusetts and was offensive coordinator at Maine before going to the Rams. Stoops promised to find someone who will open up the offense more than previous years. In 2020 the Cats ranked near the bottom in both total and passing offense. That has to be music to an incoming recruit’s ears. Whether or not Lewis steps in immediately or needs some time he has all the physical tools needed for success in the SEC.
